We are pleased to announce Peter McCann, Principal and Chief Executive of Kirklees College is the new Chair of the Leeds City Region Skills Network.
Pete was Deputy Principal at Leeds City College until July 2011. Before embarking upon a career in further education, Peter originally trained and worked in accountancy before undertaking voluntary service overseas through the British Aid programme in the Seychelles, where he later returned to manage a hotel and host a radio show.
Upon returning to the UK he combined part-time accountancy with studying as a mature student at Liverpool University where he graduated in Psychology and was appointed as an Outreach Careers Officer in Toxteth in Liverpool working with Rastafarian youth.
Whilst in this role he was approached by the local further education college to work with unemployed young people and adults. He subsequently trained as a teacher and found his final career path in further education to add value to lives through the power of further education and training.
When speaking about his new role, Pete said,
“With the continued support of our members, the Network will continue to work together to meet the needs of employers in the Leeds City Region and drive forward local skills investment.”
